According to The Bloodshot Eye, the documentary William Shatner’s Gonzo Ballet will be screened on May 25th in Memphis as part of a mini-festival of dance films organized by Indie Memphis and Project: Motion.

The documentary includes the full ballet Common People, choreographed by Margo Sappington on the Milwaukee Ballet, which was inspired by the William Shatner album made with Ben Folds, Has Been. The ballet debuted in 2007. The documentary followed in 2009 and I’m just hearing about it now due to its upcoming appearance!

Though the documentary is said to focus on the making of the ballet, I get the impression it covers the whole process from album to ballet including interviews and studio footage interspersed with material from the ballet. But the only way to be sure is to see it. Apparently it is out on dvd but I can’t find a sales option. However, Netflix has it for rent.
