Liz Lerman – Introduction [Source: Dance Exchange]
Liz Lerman, longtime director of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, based in Washington, DC, is stepping down from her role on July 1st. In a recent tribute honoring Liz Lerman, longtime member of the Dance Exchange, Cassie Meador, was also honored as the incoming artistic director.
The Liz Lerman Dance Exchange is well known for its work in community settings, creating site-specific works for nonprofessional dancers, maintaining a touring group of diverse ages and just generally doing work that still seems a bit edgy to many in the dance world. In the video above, Liz Lerman talks about the nature of her work.
The organization will return to the name Dance Exchange and Liz Lerman will pursue independent projects though also becoming Choreographer Emerita to the Dance Exchange.
