Why All World Dance Is Back On Hold

April 22, 2013 · allworlddancevideos

It’s with some disappointment and some relief that I’m announcing that All World Dance is again on hold. Indefinitely.

The short version is that, after moving the site to a WordPress.org installation and getting a taste of what it would mean to both continue my current job and to try to build this on the side, I realized I can no longer spend every waking hour on the web.

I got into web publishing a little over ten years ago and since 2005 most of my time has been spent sitting in a chair at a computer. That hasn’t been as bad as it sounds but I’m realizing I no longer have the stamina for wearing all hats and grinding it out 24/7.

All World Dance may return at a later date if I am able to put together a team with funding. There’s a huge opportunity here and the blogging/content aspect is just the tip of the iceberg. But that opportunity must await another day.

I am going to be focusing on other forms of writing that will get me out of the house and back into the offline world. There will still be much chair-sitting but less of it will be spent at a computer.

Keep up with those developments at Flux Research. Thanks for your interest. I’m sure we’ll meet again!

The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts will open in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a grand opening weekend September 9 – 11 that will feature:

"James Sewell Ballet, Zenon Dance Company, and Minnesota Dance Theater, along with Savion Glover, Jonah Bokaer (from Merce Cunningham Dance Company), Minnesota Chorale artists, and other performers."

"Tickets for the first night of the grand opening will go for $1,000 a pop, according to executive director Frank Sonntag. The next evening, the same program will be offered for $150, with 200 seats up for free to the dance community. The performance will be followed by a big party."

News Report on The Cowles Center for Dance [Source: Cowles Center]

The Cowles Center is designed with dance in mind from the theater to the educational spaces. In addition, studio and office rental space will be available and videoconferencing will allow connections to spots beyond Minneapolis.

Special dance-oriented touches for the theater include "dressing rooms with attached bathrooms with showers, the back-of-house hallways floored with special linoleum designed to be gentle on dancing shoes and the extra-large dressing room for performers with oversized costumes…The stage itself is a specially design 'sprung wood' floor with multiple layers of rubber and insulation to create the perfect surface for dancers."

The Cowles Center is expected to raise the visibility of dance in an already rich arts community according to James Sewell of the James Sewell Ballet:

"What it's going to do is give dance a platform for public visibility…People associate an art form with a place. Even though we have one of the best dance communities in the country, the average person doesn't know it’s there at all. This is going to give us a platform to launch into the consciousness of the average person on the street."

Sushma Swaraj Dances During Protest at Gandhi’s Memorial in New Delhi

Bharatiya Janata Party senior politician Sushma Swaraj danced briefly at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat in New Delhi, India as part of a protest by BHJ opposition party members. They were protesting the late night eviction of an anti-corruption gathering from festival grounds.

The original gathering was led by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev who has since been hospitalized due to an indefinite fast undertaken as part of the protests.

Gandhian Anna Hazare fasted for a day as a symbol of protest and said that he would also start an indefinite fast in August if the ant-graft Lokpal Bill is not passed.

Media attention has focused on the dance video of Sushma Swaraj who said she is shocked that they are not focusing instead on the overall protest.
